Self Motivation - do you have it?
Do you have the desire to get up and get going?
Can you compel yourself to do something that may feel uncomfortable because you really, really want an end result?
The ability to get up and get going is the most important part of attaining your goals. You can learn to self motivate.
There are some clear and telling differences in the type of personalities that find it easier to embrace self motivation than those who don’t.
Find out which type you are and you will discover your level of self motivation.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Is wanting to achieve of the utmost importance to you?
- Do you believe that your effort and persistence will yield the results, positive or negative?
- Is the success or failure of your endeavor your responsibility?
- Do you believe you must put forth effort and persist until you reach your goal?
- Do you see difficulties or challenges as opportunities for growth and learning?
- Do you value hard work?
- Do you believe you can learn and therefore improve?
- Do you believe that it’s your ongoing effort that overcomes failure and leads to success?
- When you find yourself doing something is it because you’re afraid of what will happen if you don’t?
- If you find something difficult or challenging to do is that your reason for not doing it?
- Do you pass off your failure to succeed on circumstances or other people’s behavior?
- In the face of a challenge are you paralyzed by a fear of being embarrassed?
- Do you ever make fun of successful people and their achievements as being un-cool or unattractive?
- Do you believe that if you aren’t born with it then you may as well “forget it” because it’s hopeless?
What is your conversational style? How do you talk to yourself? Your self talk is part of self motivation.

You don’t know if you can do it until you’ve at least tried and tried again and again and again!
But what if I fail? How will others perceive me?
Hey you gotta know how to read the signs and know when to quit.
Self motivation is not just a matter of positive thinking
So much of your thinking is based on what you learned as a child and the way you’re modeling life. This can be changed and it’s not just a matter of positive thinking. This change of attitude can be learned and implemented so that your thinking naturally becomes more positive. This is so much easier in the long run than pushing a thousand pound rock uphill, when you’re trying to be a positive thinker, but you’re going against your actual beliefs. Positive thinking can be cultivated as long as you can overcome your limiting beliefs.
How can you develop Self Motivation?
IT’S THE WHY!
If the reason behind your goal is strong enough that alone can be the self motivation you need to conquer the fear of failure and embarrassment.
The reason or the why is the driving force of the self motivated type of personality. Click to Tweet
For example haven’t you seen some amazing changes in people after they’ve had a child? All of a sudden they work harder, straighten up their life style, even stop drinking and driving. Because the desire to give their child a better life is a very strong and a motivating “why” for most people.
If you’re on the unmotivated side of things and are searching for self motivation, you can develop a strong why and this is how you do it.
- Look closely at what you want and decide if it’s actually your desire or someone else’s. If it’s yours and it’s really important to you, you’re more inclined to be motivated to accomplish it.
- Get crystal clear on what you want to accomplish.
- Write it down on paper with an end date of accomplishment.
- Learn to visualize yourself as having already accomplished it.
- Actively search out material and information about the subject of your goal.
- Find out about others who have been successful in the pursuit of your goal. You can easily find that on the internet by doing a simple search.
- Write lists and lists of the benefits you will gain once your goal is achieved.
- Write lists and more lists about the benefits of trying to accomplish your goal.
- Learn to compose proper I Am type affirmations and say them often throughout the day.
Remember small daily steps toward your goal accomplishes a ton in the long run, so just START!
