Your Unique Purpose of Life
Have you ever wondered about the purpose of life, the purpose of your life? You ARE here for a reason and even if it does not seem like it, the stage is set for you to fulfill that purpose. You have something to share that is unique to you and no one else. Can you see how very special you are? Your gifts, point of view and abilities are needed in the world right here, right now. Start believing that and your purpose of life will soon reveal itself.
Many of us spend years and years of our lives searching for our unique life’s purpose and feel as if it’s eluding us. Some may even feel that they have no purpose, but they do. Searching for the purpose of life may be frustrating and even exhausting but we need to just take a breath and step back. Your life’s purpose is already here and available to you, it always has been. You must start with kindness and patience for yourself. If you believe that you will never find your purpose of life; then you will never find it. As, Henry Ford said;
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t - You’re right.”
Acceptance is the first step to finding your purpose of life
Start by accepting yourself and what you’re doing right now. Accept that you may not love what you’re doing or that you may feel as if you’re in the wrong place. Just accept your feelings. as they are, without resistance. Do not make a drama out of this. Acceptance rather than resistance will go a long way in allowing your truth and purpose of life to simply reveal itself to you. For more on understanding acceptance, see my post on accepting what is.
Finding Your Purpose of Life
Simply living your life with acceptance and awareness is the first step to finding your purpose of life. For now, go easy on yourself and enjoy your life. Do something that you love to do, for at least a few minutes every single day. Notice the things you do that go on for hours without you seeing the time flying by. Pay attention to what others ask your advice about, Be aware of situations that pique your interest and where you want to jump in and help someone, even before they ask. Passionate conversations that you find yourself starting, or contributing to, can hold the key to your unique purpose of life. All of these examples ignite the enthusiasm within you for a reason. Any of these could be your unique purpose.
Are you afraid of your purpose of life?
Do that which you fear the most…
Your purpose of life may also be something you’ve been putting off due to fear, or be on the other side of a trying time you’re going through. I teach all my clients to ask the following in every situation: “What is the lesson here, what is the silver lining?” Often asking those questions can be a good way to find your purpose. Notice how much you learned about yourself the last time you faced one of your fears. How rewarding was it to get through a time when you felt it was never going to end?
I want you to remember how incredible it felt to face that fear and get through that hard time. Did you end up loving what you learned and accomplished? Did you find yourself wanting to share, not only the outcome, but the journey with the world? That could be your unique purpose of life and the journey you took to get there got you ready to fulfill that purpose. Your struggles may have been your greatest gift because they pointed you in the direction of what you are here to do; your purpose of life.
In her article for “Psychology Today” Dr. Susan Biali, M.D. says;
“All you have to do is decide to be open to this area of your life, and be willing to take whatever steps or inspiration call to you. I’m convinced that if you do that, you can’t go wrong, and you won’t “miss it”. Be curious. Enjoy the process. Marvel at life and its richness as you go along.”

Finding your unique purpose sets you free…
“Being grounded in my purpose has allowed me to finally let go: let go of the manipulating and pushing that used to dominate my thoughts and my activities; let go of my hard held attachments to the outcome of events, situations and even my relationships.”

You may have learned from past struggles some valuable lessons. There is a better wayf. Struggle is caused by resisting situations. Once we go into acceptance the struggle is over and the lessons will more easily appear. Though struggling may have served you in the past, the time has come to let it go. Expect your purpose of life to be revealed to you. Just knowing that, will open the door.
Stay open and look for the clues to present themselves. Most of all, treat yourself with patience and kindness and you will confidently move in the direction of your purpose. Your purpose may not appear earth shaking to others but it is your purpose of life and it is perfect just for you.
