You DO Have a Purpose in Life After 50
You do and can have a purpose in life after 50 or for whatever time frame you are living. Many find more passion and less restrictions after the age of 50 than ever before. This is a time to seek out new and fun ways to be productive and passionately engaged.
Today we can expect to live longer than ever before and these years can be a great gift. It’s been found that those who feel a sense of purpose and direction in life may live longer, and that a greater purpose in life after 50 especially, consistently predicted a lower risk of dying. It’s also been found that having a strong purpose in life after 50 can protect the brain against Alzheimer’s disease.
This can be a time of new self-discovery and because your priorities have changed you now have that freedom. Yet, if we don’t embrace this time in life with an open attitude and curiosity we could feel overwhelmed which can easily lead to feeling stuck or paralyzed.
Barbara Hannah Grufferman writes:
We’ve spent decades being organized: managing our households, families, and lives. What we need to do now is much bigger. Julie described it in terms of our life cycle: Starting in our twenties, we go through a period of acquisition: property, people, experiences, marriage, children and other relationships. As we age, we organize and integrate everything we acquire. By the time we reach 50, we need to step back and evaluate our acquisitions, and to focus on where we are now, and where we want to go. It’s very easy to lose yourself, especially at this age when there are so many potential changes looming: kids growing up and moving out, parents aging and possibly moving in, changes in jobs, retiring, downsizing. We can confront these life events, seize the moment of transition, and push ourselves out of the clutter, or we can get stuck in the mire. If we don’t have a purpose in life after 50 or at any age we risk stagnation.
Inspire others with your purpose in life after 50!
Be celebrated for having a purpose in life after 50! Many people at this age have a yearning for more even though they may have found fulfillment in the past and accomplished some or many of their hopes and dreams. Encore.org, is a nonprofit think tank on boomers, work and social purpose leading the call to engage millions of baby boomers. They’ve developed a “Purpose Prize” given to those over 60 who are vitally involved in social good.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/15/purpose-prize-winners_n_4254667.html Russ Mitchell says the Purpose Prize is designed “to inspire people in that age bracket or approaching it to realize that they’re not done yet and still have a lot to give.”
http://www.encore.org/thebigshift But in his latest book – The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Midlife – Encore.org founder and CEO Marc Freedman issues an impassioned call to accept the decades opening up between midlife and anything approximating old age for what they really are: a new stage of life, an encore phase.
At this point you are probably done being who you’re supposed to be, but where does that leave you? Now you have to look within to be who you are. You may have changed your purpose, or feel you have lost your purpose in life after 50 arrived- it does not have to be that way.
Finding your purpose in life after 50
- Remember forgotten dreams and goals.
- Finally there’s time to meditate and actually “Live in the Now”!
- What really lights your fire, makes you heart sing?
- What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
- What are your talents and natural abilities?
- Define your values as they are now.
- Push yourself beyond what you know.
- Go beyond your comfort zone. If not now then when?
- Say YES to what you want.

Nine points mentioned are enough to make a plan now. As we progress, we can enjoy and also keep on revising (improvising) it and make the life meaningful. This also helps your (and mine) endeavors to make loved ones lives meaningful. Thanks a lot for the great post.
Thank you Deepak for your thoughtful comment ☺️
