What is your purpose?
What is my purpose? Why am I here? Am I just a cosmic accident or is there some reason I was put on earth at this particular time?
What is my purpose in life is a question asked by many people as they ponder the reasons for their existence. Life is the expression of the Reason for being. The Reason represents the intelligence that is within all things. For example, it is the power within a seed, when planted in the garden, grows step by step to the fulfilment of its reason for being. Everything has a purpose, a time and a season. Autumn is a wonderful example of the fulfilment of many plants as we enjoy the abundance of fruits and vegetables that are harvested at this time in the cycles or seasons of life.

I think all of us have asked ourselves questions very much like these. We’re struggling to find meaning in our lives. Once our basic needs are met we have the time to ask those questions. Perhaps those lost in finding their purpose put their energy into the pursuit of material things and perfecting their beauty to the exclusion of everything else. Many find that a good diversion from asking themselves the tough questions.
When clients come to me a bit lost and unsatisfied with their lives I always start with the question “What makes your heart sing?” Sometimes it takes a bit of prodding to find the answer because often we believe that if we are really joyous in whatever we’re doing that couldn’t actually be our purpose. Oh, but it can!
Some really good questions to ask yourself when trying to get on your “special path” are
- Have I been discounting my daydreams as only fantasy?
- Have I been fearful doing what I’m urged to because of the opinion of others?
- What did I love to do as a kid that I wouldn’t dare do now?
- Do I dream of doing or being something only to feel disheartened because I’m afraid I wont be good at it?
- When I feel excited at the prospect of going after a dream does my inner critic rise up and tell me that I’m not smart enough, not good enough, don’t have what it takes, etc, etc, etc.
- When I get the guts to pursue something do I give up at the slightest bump in the road.
- Have I been going after the life I was told would make me happy?
Here are some ways to overcome all of the above and discover your purpose
- First put yourself in a quiet even meditative state. These meditations will help
- Ask your higher self (you do have one) to offer you a daydream or a visualization of what you would love doing, what you came here to do.
- Allow the picture to take shape in your mind and just have fun with it.
- Be aware of your inner critique trying to spoil your picture and simply acknowledge that mean voice. You can say something like “Hello inner critique. I hear you but I’m going to continue with my daydream anyway.
- Enjoy yourself no matter what pictures you come up with. No one is judging you so allow your mind to really have fun with the exercise.
You may not come up with something at that exact moment but you may surprise yourself and get a glimpse of something you just know in your gut is Your Purpose.
Do this exercise often and as you go to sleep at night direct your higher self to give you the answer to your purpose.

Now watch for the signs and signals the Universe will send your way. Don’t expect an email with bullet points telling you just what, why and where. It will be more subtle than that, but stay open to synchronicity. Be aware that a change of some kind can be leading you to your purpose.
