Procrastination Hurts Worse Than Actually Doing the Deed!
Are you thinking about all of those things you’ve left undone? The things you should do, the things you need to do, the things you’re expected to do? How much energy are you expending feeling guilty and procrastinating because you haven’t done what you’re supposed to?
Procrastination paralyzes
It’s been said that, once the not doing hurts worse than the actually doing, you get off your behind and do it. The problem is we waste so much time getting to that point and our energy is being drained by the minute. When you’re thinking about an increasingly overwhelming pile of “to do’s” that procrastination is enough to paralyze some and put others in bed with the covers over their head. I know that’s what it does to me.
Do you write endless to do lists and never do anything on them? Do you think, “I’ll do that tomorrow”, and tomorrow never comes? Does this make you feel uncomfortable? Yes, procrastination hurts!
I suggest that you start with just one thing on your to do list. Don’t approach the whole list because once again, that can be overwhelming. Simply make an intention to get one thing done. Just one thing and after you complete it allow yourself to revel in the feeling of accomplishment.
An article in the Huffington Post says of your to do list:
“Get it all out there, and then I want you to take action every single day towards one of your goals. Even if it’s just making a phone call, reading a book, or walking over to a woman you’re attracted to. It’s about building momentum. If you’re procrastinating you’ve got into some bad habits, and you need to break them gradually.”

Try making a list of the things that you want to get done that day and for the month ahead. Be specific and don’t generalize. Instead of writing “fix up the house” and “write my book” break it down into smaller chunks such as “buy drapes for the living room” and “write one page a day”. The smaller the task the easier it is to face it and get it done.
Then once each thing is done ceremoniously tick it off of your list. Pat yourself on the back and instead of saying something like “oh well, that’s just one tiny thing out of so many things I’m behind with”, and beating yourself up, notice your self talk and change it to congratulatory and supportive words. Things like “thatta girl, look you got those drapes ordered” or “wow, writing that page was a lot easier than thinking about writing that page”. That’s one I’m very familiar with.
What form does your procrastination take?
How are you avoiding? What are you doing that makes you so busy you feel like you don’t have the time to get your stuff done? Are you tweeting and facebooking instead of getting your to do list done? Make a deal with yourself and every time you get something on your list done give yourself one hour on Twitter or Facebook, or get a pedicure or spend a few hours watching the football game guilt free. Then go on to your next “to do”.
Remember, No one “builds a house.” They lay one brick again and again and again and the end result is a house. Now it’s time to take action and lay one brick, just one brick today and another tomorrow and another and another and another and another. Soon you’ll have a house.
