Positive Affirmations and Limiting Beliefs

Positive Affirmations- the Better Choice!

You cannot hold two beliefs in your mind at the same time, so you may as well fill your mind up with positive affirmations and beliefs.

Did you know that most of the time the thing that’s keeping you from being and doing all you want and making your dreams come true usually isn’t your circumstances? It’s your deeply held beliefs.

How to change those beliefs? Well first you have to know what they are. Most of us don’t know a limiting belief from a fact. Click to Tweet

Often time what we believe to be true is only our point of view or what has been taught to us by others with limiting beliefs.

Identifying your Limiting Beliefs and using Positive Affirmations to overcome them

So how do you know what’s holding you back besides what you see in front of your eyes? In other words you’re a guy and you say, ” If I had more money I would date more girls,” but you don’t see that you have some kind of limiting belief about money. If you’re a woman and you say something like “all the good men are either gay or taken” you actually believe that is true instead of it simply being a belief. The scary part of this is that you attract to yourself according to your beliefs and so because of that limiting belief you attract evidence to support it. Then you can say “See I’m right, such and such happened”. Actually I’m right, you have caused it to happen based on the Law of Attraction powered by your beliefs.

Do positive affirmations work. Yes and no.

Be positive about yourself

  • They will not work if you say them a couple of times and that’s it.
  • They will not work if you use one outrageously out of your comfort zone.
  • You must get very clear on the affirmation that will support what you want
  • You have to practice that affirmation faithfully until you begin to see evidence of it becoming an actuality.

An example of an ineffective affirmation would be “I am rich”. When you know damn well you aren’t rich. You’re behind in the rent, you’re concerned about giving the kids lunch money for tomorrow and you’re busy trying to affirm the unbelievable. I am rich. No wonder most give up with those types of affirmations.

A better one would be “Money is always flowing to me” Hopefully you find that much easier to conceive of and then the next thing that starts happening is you begin to find evidence of that truth. You begin to notice areas where you find a bargain, or find a few coins on the street. You rummage through old handbags and find a few dollars you forgot you hid in a pocket. Your confidence begins to raise based on just this little bit of evidence and now you find even more evidence. Opportunities and situations (that were always there by the way) now become obvious to you and you know that if you take action there is a potential for even more money to flow to you.

Positive Affirmations and Fear

All of a sudden something else comes up. FEAR! Fear keeps you from doing what you need to do and is often an unconscious drive. Click to Tweet

Many of your values and beliefs are hidden in your subconscious mind. You can change these but only by practice and repetition and above all awareness. You can’t change anything if you don’t know it has to be changed.

  1. Figure out what you want
  2. Write a couple of lists in regard to what you want
  3. Everything you can do
  4. Everything you can’t do

The things you’ve written on your everything you can’t do list are limiting beliefs or driven by limiting beliefs. Now you have something to work with.

5. Use logic to bust through those limiting beliefs, for example find someone from similar circumstances as you who has not had that belief and became successful at a similar goal.

6. Figure out why you want that particular thing. – get down to the underlying experience you’re looking for.

Example: you want a new car but realize the reason you want the car is so you feel more confident.

  1. Create a visualization complete with the actual feeling or experience of confidence you want.(See my book on using visualizations, HERE Visualization Book on Kindle)

So you see, it’s more than simply repeating a positive phrase, or positive affirmation you have to do it with thought and persistence and a bit of action. If you need some help learning how to create positive affirmations check out my post “Learn affirmations” here.

My radio guest this week was Steven Aitchison- known as the Facebook king with half a million likes! His area of expertise is brain wave technology and affirmations.

Take the first step..the rest follow…

You can think of positive affirmations as a drop of ink going into a gallon of water. The more drops you put in, the more colored the water becomes. It’s the same thing, but if you don’t drop in the ink nothing will change. Positive affirmations require positive action.

What about fear? Once you actually determine what it is you want and you begin going for it you may notice discomfort or actual abject fear when you just think about being or doing what you must to achieve that goal. That clearly is a fear and you can change that.

Nothing positive will happen for you until you get out of your comfort zone and this was true from the time you took your first step. Don’t you think a small baby feels uncomfortable getting up from knees to feet, taking a wobbly step only to fall and hit his little head? But what next? He tries again and again until finally he’s up walking and running and playing. The difference is though he was afraid he wasn’t as aware of it as you are now as an adult.

Just start, you don’t have to start at the most difficult thing. First try the bunny slopes just like you did if you were skiing. You don’t start off going down a double black diamond run do you? No, you start with the bunny slope building evidence that yes, you can do it.

Well it’s the same, you must get into the uncomfortable place of change before you can make the strides you need to to get to whatever place you want in life.

Preparing your positive affirmations

  • Start by figuring out what you want
  • Make your can do and cant do lists
  • Come up with a believable positive affirmation
  • Figure out what the underlying want actually is
  • Create a visualization complete with sounds, tastes, smells and textures of all kinds and
  • Look for evidence of that as a possibility.

Carefully thought out positive affirmations WILL work once you identify and conquer your limiting beliefs

Once you do all of that you may just realize that the experience or feeling that you are looking for in all of the things you want is Happiness. Happiness First… the rest will follow.
