You know those times in life when you’re trapped deeply in negativity, that place where everything seems to be going wrong? And you know how during those times you feel as if you have no ability to change? You can’t hear the inner voice that is always there, you can’t hear your friends encouragement, you may not even want to read the encouraging blogs of mine or anyone else.
Stuck in negativity
At those times you can’t push yourself to read inspirational material, attend a webinar or even watch a video that in the past always worked to get you moving in a positive direction. You don’t have the initiative or the desire or spark needed to make a change.
During those times the best word I can think of is STUCK. Stuck as if you are cemented in time and space and everything just snowballs into more and more negativity. You experience not wanting to take care of your health, you have little to no desire to eat right or exercise. You may not even have the energy to fill a needed prescription. You feel as if no one and nothing can or will help and other than feeling like crap you just don’t give a damn. And of course your love life, relationships with friends and your line of work all take a similar path. It feels like a tornado coming from underground is sucking you in deeper and deeper.
Would it surprise you to know that I’ve had times in my life just like that? As a matter of fact my husband and I just moved into a new home that we have been remodeling. Although I’ve remodeled and moved many times in the past, even though I am a teacher and coach of Happiness and positive visualization, things went wrong and I had to deal with negativity, a horrible feeling of being stuck in a nightmare.
Everyone gets stuck sometimes- negativity can be overcome
Okay, so this is what I learned and more deeply understand then at any other time in my life. This isn’t my first time going through this, but it felt like the darkest the most painful and helpless then ever before. I HAD TO GET READY TO GET READY!
Sound familiar? It may. I’ve certainly heard that and even coached that before, but until I began to get ready and willing to be ready I was in that tailspin that resulted in two cracked ribs, a backache that required I lay in bed for 4 days and then I got a flu that caused a high temperature. That required additional bed rest and an antibiotic. To top things off during this time everything that could go wrong in my home remodel went wrong. I found myself frustrated, angry and even hateful toward my contractors and that made things even worse. Then to really make things worse, my Skype program locked me out for over a month AND no hot water was coming out of my kitchen sink for WEEKS! OMG I felt as if the earth was pulling me deeper and deeper into a muddy hole.
Negativity withers before sunshine and laughter Click to Tweet
Thankfully there were times during this period that I felt appreciation for my two dogs always laying close to me, on guard for my wellness and protection, my husband being kind and understanding and my son loving as always. Once I remembered, duh, to keep putting my attention on those things and start being grateful and appreciative my willingness to get ready to be ready finally woke up.
Yes, the more I laughed at my dogs adorable antics, thanked my hubby for encouraging words, felt love for my son, looked out my window at natures beauty; the brighter my world became.
Even as I write this and though I gave thanks for having hot water yesterday morning by the afternoon only cold water came from the kitchen faucet! Another test? In my better place I was able not to fall into the negativity trap. This morning I called the faucet company and they are overnight sending me a new faucet AND paying for its installation. Can you see how I manifested differently because of my brighter, lighter energy, attitude and emotions? I realized I had been putting much more attention on fixing everything and too little attention on what was good, what was right about my life and house.

Negativity requires a shift in focus for you to overcome that sinking, drowning feeling. Reminding yourself of the good things in your life, however small, helps to bring more positive energy into your situation. I am getting ready to be ready and realistically I know I am not there yet, but I am on my way!
If you are feeling stuck in negativity, here is my challenge- Get ready with me - let’s shift that negative energy, and get out of the negativity swamp.
Over the next couple of weeks I am going to share you with you some tips to work yourself out of the quicksand and appreciate the good things in your life.
Just in case you think there are no good things in your life- believe me- there are and together we will find them 🙂
Looking forward to the tips. Thanks for the great post.
