Live in the Now

Live in the Now

What’s in the past is gone and you cannot bring it back or change it. Your future is unknown, so there is absolutely no reason to anticipate problems and worry about them. Five minutes from now is still a new now, so it makes sense to live in the now. Experience it when it happens. Being in the present moment is absolutely freeing. This very moment, NOW is all you have and it’s all you ever will have. When you’ve really experienced living in the now you know that it’s really all you need.

“To be alive is to totally and openly participate in the simplicity and elegance of here and now.” - Donald Altman

You already have everything you need right here, right now. You don’t need to wait for it because you already have it…within you. But, you need to expand your awareness to notice it, to learn to live in the now.

Breathing to fully live in the now

A simple way to bring yourself completely into the present moment is to use your breath. Breathe deeply with your attention on your breath. It’s easy, it’s legal and you can do it in public. How many other things that give you great enjoyment can you say that about?

All that matters is this new moment, this new now, and this new now and this one and …your ability to live in the now. There is always time to do things differently, to use and practice what you’ve learned up to this point, to completely transform yourself and the rest of your life. That time is now. There is only now.

A New Now is Within your Power

Did you know that it is chemically impossible for you to keep a feeling inside of your body for more than 90 seconds without fueling it? In other words your thoughts and emotions actually cause chemicals to be released into your body thereby fueling a feeling. How cool is that? That means that you have the power within you to create a new now at all times. When you live in the now you can refocus to things that make you feel good. Every minute of your life is a new now, a new opportunity for you to do and be everything you’ve ever hoped for and dreamed of.

The Buddhist discipline “Zen” does not seek to answer subjective questions because these are not important issues for Zen. What really matters is the here and now: not God, not the afterlife, but the present moment here and now.”

You’ve probably heard the term Zen and you may have a vague idea of what it means. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath and softly utter the word Zen. Draw the word out and say Zennnnnnnnnn on your out breath. Notice a peaceful feeling wash over you as you do. There is always peace available to you in every moment. It’s our emotions, our over thinking and judging that fool us into believing that the present moment is anything but peaceful. Breathe and believe, because everything really is all going according to plan right now. Everything is perfect and as it should be for our highest good. When you look at life in that way you naturally attract goodness into your life.

“It’s time to discipline your mind to focus on the present moment. When we’re really here now we aren’t carrying our baggage with us therefore we come to this moment fresh. All possibilities are open to us in this way.”

You can live in the now, create your moments

Once you realize that you are the creator of every single moment of your life, every moment will be different. You will consciously decide to live at a higher level, to live in the now. You will no longer stress over what has already happened, what is currently happening, or what may or may not happen. Your stress comes from remorse about the past and fear of the future. All of that is merely a distraction that steers you off course and takes your eyes off of your goals and dreams. You see, there is no stress in the present moment.

Focus on now

Train yourself to focus on the here and now, you will realize what you already have. Appreciation and gratitude come from being fully in the present moment. You will be clear on what you may need to work on and what is simply not your job to change. Appreciate this as well; doing this will create a domino effect. What you focus on will multiply. Always strive to notice and create the best moments, the best new now, and that’s exactly what you will see come to fruition! If you truly want to enjoy happiness, then live in the now.
