Energy Healing- New Age Hokum or Useful Medicine?
Energy healing has certainly been talked about and practiced since time began. I don’t think any of us can remember back to a time in our childhood where we didn’t at the very least watch a movie with healing rituals performed by some type of Shaman. Often it was less about physical touching and more about moving energy with fire or fronds or even music.
Today there seems to be a huge resurgence, which I suppose goes perfectly along with the so called “New Age”. Humph, what about any of this is New Age? All of these concepts, the supposed new thoughts, were clearly spelled out in every ancient spiritual and even “religious” text including the bible and the Bhagavad-Gita to name only two.
So what exactly is energy healing? Click to Tweet
Energy healing is an umbrella term for most any therapy that moves the energy around and through our physical and or subtle bodies. The idea is to regain the body’s natural balance and cause the body to use it’s innate healing mechanisms. Most practitioners will combine different types of healing modalities1)a particular mode in which something exists or is experienced or expressed including prayer and intuition to maximize the effect.
There are as many types of energy healings as there are flavors of ice cream, so which one do you choose and are the actual results of each different? After all, isn’t energy energy? But when you actually speak to these healers, these people who use a particular mode of healing, many insist they are tapping into a different field, or current if you will. Well that does make sense to me. It’s like changing channels on the TV or stations on the radio. Some have better reception than others and some have better programming. A simplification, I know but it brings it into an area I can relate to.
Having been certified as a Reconnective Healer myself I know that I have had “healing hands” since I was a young girl Click to Tweet and long before I received or knew about any type of healing certifications. As a pre-teen I remember one of our dogs had a terrible hip problem and a lot of pain when walking. She would limp and often wimper. Intuitively I began rubbing my hands together and then would hold them over her hips with my eyes closed. At that time I would will her to heal through my hands and pray at the same time. She always seemed better after those sessions. Her gait was more natural and the wimpering stopped. Then in a few days the pain returned and I would repeat my healing ritual. Truthfully I haven’t actually used my education as a Reconnective Healer since I was certified , because although I consider myself a healer I do so mostly through my guidance, teachings and coaching. I do know I create an energy shift and a healing of my clients life by my work and our combined intention, but that again is another story.
Energy Healing Interview
My wonderful radio guest Dr. Eric Scott Pearl of The Reconnection says that he was gifted this amazing mode of energy healing and that it encompasses and surpasses all other modalitaties. He says once you’ve learned how to “play” with these special frequencies you will never be the same and, regardless of whatever type of healing you may then go back to, your results will be far better since having experienced “The Reconnection”. After reading the many testimonials on Dr. Pearl’s website and personally having been with him and seen some of these happenings I have to say it is pretty amazing.

Energy healing, once considered a new-age practice, is becoming a mainstream concept. In healing, people often refer to channeling “chi” or “universal energy” to help people clear energetic blocks. Many people associate this practice with Reiki, a system of natural healing that uses universal energy and the laying of hands to help people alleviate spiritual, physical or mental suffering. There are many forms of healing, however, ranging from shamanism to Chinese and ayurveda medicine. Alternative methods of healing are finally being recognized by institutions as an effective way to improve health. At UCLA, hospitals now offer mindfulness, meditation and qigong. Healing has become new medicine.
Energy Healing Becomes Mainstream
In today’s world energy healing is becoming a bit more mainstream. Tapping into the body’s own frequencies as an alternative to more allopathic 2)Allopathic medicine is an expression commonly used by homeopaths and proponents of other forms of alternative medicine to refer to mainstream medical use of pharmacologically active agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of diseases or conditions methods are now being used as an addition to what has been considered western medicine or when western medicine throws it’s hands up and says there is nothing more to be done.
Being a California girl I’m no stranger to alternative medicine and healthy and organic eating. I have long been concerned about the side effects
of mainstream medicine. I find it particularly eerie when watching a television commercial about a particular medicine showing two perfectly healthy, happy people doing something physical like riding bikes, or dancing salsa and all the while this lovely, soft, encouraging woman is telling you about the side effects. Often they go something like, “May cause dizziness, heart attack, loss of sight, and in rare cases stroke or early death.” Funny, the picture of these healthy people and the soothing voice go well together. So well, that we hardly hear the warning if at all. Click to Tweet
Wellness Magazine says:
Think about a world where healthcare has no adverse side effects: Where you experience no pain during or after your healthcare procedures. Picture a world where our children look at us and ask incredulously, “Really!? Did people really used to swallow poisons to try to get well?” We have become so desensitized by our no-pain-no-gain attitudes that the onslaught of elective surgeries and pharmaceutical commercials letting us know …..
Myself I believe there is a place for allopathic medicine as well as other modalities. I see this as an individual choice and would never encourage any of my clients or students to go without their MD’s checkup should any physical ailment require attention. As they say before starting a diet, first check with your physician. After the OK from your doctor, I see energy healing as a wonderful addition to our health care.
