Be Happy- Happiness Is Up To You

Happiness is not dependent on outside circumstances. Your happiness simply depends on you. If you want to be happy, you can be. It really is like magic! Despite anything and anyone around you, including your own pesky inner ogre, you can decide to be happy and remain happy.

 

“But this is happening, but this is going to happen, but this person and that person did/said this and I’m pissed!”

This is your inner ogre speaking!

…So what? You are letting it affect your day, week, month, year…life. What people think of you or project onto you, is none of your business. What people say is more about themselves than about you. They are just projecting how they feel onto you. You have a choice whether or not you are going to take what they say and make it true for you. You can simply decide to say (or just think) “thank you for your input,” acknowledge it and move on happily about your day. Do you truly want what other people say and do to stop you from being happy?

I Can Be Happy..if only this would happen

Are you the “if…then” type? In other words, are you conditionally happy? Do you find yourself saying “If this happens, then I will be happy” or “if so and so does this, then I will be happy”? You, at your core, are happiness and you have every right to own it!

According to Jaelin K. Reece, in her article “Choosing Happiness: It’s Actually Your Choice”;

“The key to owning that power fully, is to accept that you are a rightful heir to it. Knowing that you are empowered within to choose your emotion, to choose how you respond or react to something, is all up to you. It is all choice.”

Acceptance is the key if you want to be happy

Sometimes, unfortunate things happen, that are beyond your control. Some of these things will make you angry, sad, depressed, etc. That’s perfectly natural. It’s important that you acknowledge and accept how you’re feeling and not pretend that the emotions aren’t there. Don’t resist. However, it is equally important to let it go once you accept it. It may not happen quickly and naturally; but don’t beat yourself up if the process is daunting at first. That’s okay. You’re learning a new way to be that will benefit you from that moment on. Give yourself a little nudge, remind yourself that you choose to be happy, not outside circumstance. Whenever you hear that inner ogre, or life just plain sucks, think of something that makes you unbelievably happy!

Gratitude for the smallest thing can help you to be happy

One of the easiest ways to decide to be happy is to express gratitude. There is always something to be thankful for, always. If you’re having the worst day you’ve ever had, that’s when it’s especially important to find something that’s going well for you, something you’re thankful for. You’re still breathing, aren’t you? The gift of life, which is denied to many every single day, is something to be grateful for. Having food to eat, fresh air to breath, a place to rest your head at night…these are all things that you can be grateful for and choose to be happy about! Nature is a great place to visit when you feel blue. Who cannot help but smile when seeing the beauty of a flower, the magnificence of a tree or hearing birds sing?

It might seem foreign to you at first…

“How in the world is being grateful for a pillow supposed to make me happy on this day from hell?!”

The answer is, because once you’re happy about that, the universe will give you more to be happy about. It already has, but your focus will expand onto those things, instead of all of the things you were unhappy about. That right there, can be the nudge you need to steer you back to expressing gratitude and being happy. What you think about, you bring about! You’ll get more of what you’re putting out into the universe. So if you put out happy thoughts and happy words, then your attention and awareness will shift to the abundance of things you already have to be happy and smile about. It’s there already! It’s yours!

If you are having a hard time it may feel overwhelming and nothing to be happy about reveals itself. You may need to find a place in your home to quiet your thoughts and give you some breathing space.

“There are many ways to cultivate the sacred in our life. We certainly can create a sacred space in our home or environment that, when we pass by that candle, altar, or meditation space, brings us into that place of reverence.”-

Change the way you look at things to be happy

You can’t control anyone else’s behavior or any outside circumstances. Free yourself from that responsibility. You can change how you react to it…all of it. This will change you and your heart, which will create a domino effect and change things around you. You may decide to remove yourself from these situations completely if you feel the need to. What’s really amazing is when you find the things that make you the happiest, your focus is put on them and the things that once bothered you begin to take care of themselves. They aren’t there anymore! You didn’t have to do anything other than let go and let the universe take care of it. How free and happy does that make you feel?!

Once you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. That’s really you and your perspective changing. Right now, you may be ready to run for the hills and hightail it out of your current environment. Give yourself a chance to reflect and look at things differently, begin feeling gratitude and happiness in the things you have overlooked or taken for granted. I guarantee you will look at whatever is currently not working for you differently as well. You will find that it is all working for your highest good! You will amaze yourself! Choose to be happy and happiness will follow.

    Thank you, Lorane, for your inspirational messages. I never thought of being responsible for my own happiness. I choose happiness right now! It feels great to let go of worrying about what other people do or say. I'm not responsible for them.

    Thank you Lorane. I have the choice to choose Happiness. It's such a relief not to have outside circumstances control my happiness. My happiness is not dependent upon anyone else in my life. I choose Happiness NOW! How brilliant. LOVED it
