3 Common Misunderstandings about the Law of Attraction

Have you stumbled across information about law of attraction and are needing more pieces of the puzzle? Are you having some trouble gaining traction with your attraction efforts? Feeling like the concept is simple, but the actual manifesting doesn’t feel so easy?

If so, you’re not alone. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what law of attraction is all about. At its core, the process is very simple, but most of us have a lot of conditioning that we need to work through, conditioning that makes it hard to fully buy into law of attraction, even if there is a part of us that resonates with it, and believes there is some truth to it.

Here are a few of the most common misunderstandings I believe cause people to struggle with consciously working with law of attraction, and get positive results.

Law of Attraction- Challenge 1- You Have to Think about What You Want All the Time

One of the things that you may have read quite a bit about when it comes to law of attraction, is having to hold a steady picture of what you want in your mind, that you always need to be thinking about what you want. And, this might be a bit anxiety-inducing because there is a lot of other stuff happening in your waking hours that also requires your attention. You may worry you are not devoting enough time to thinking about what you want. You may feel a bit stressed always having to visualize.

Sometimes thinking about what you want may not feel so great, and law of attraction is all about feeling good, so you worry you are ‘messing it up.’ Perhaps you are not even that sure about what you want, and worry your visualizations are too ‘fuzzy.’ Well, while thinking about what you want, and feeling good about it, is certainly a great use of your time- you should roll with it anytime these happy thoughts pop in your mind. But, know thinking about what you want all the time is not necessary. In fact, you could never think about what you want again, and you could still get this thing, provided you allow it in. Once you decide on a desire, your order gets placed with the Universe.

There are countless things I have manifested that I never gave a second thought to Click to Tweet until they came into my experience, and I was like..whoa, totally forgot I even wanted that! It is pretty great.

Sometimes, thinking about what we want a lot may actually slow things because this very act often activates all sorts of resistance—all the beliefs that contradict what you want, all the reasons you think you can’t have what you want.

So, no, don’t worry about thinking about what you want all the time, it isn’t required.

Law of Attraction- Challenge 2 - It Is All about Our Thoughts

There is a lot of talk about ‘thinking positively’ and yes, what we think is a huge part of the process without a doubt. But, what we attract into our life is not based on what we think about. It is not about thinking specific things and having those exact things happen. Though, often times, we do get exactly what we think about because it is actually the best representation of our desire.

We attract based on our beliefs and feelings—we are brought experiences that match the feelings and beliefs that are predominant in our ‘vibration.’ Our thoughts are important in that they are representations of what we are currently feeling—we attract thoughts based on our vibration just like we attract anything else. Our thoughts are valuable in that they help us mold our desires, they are representations of our energy. Our thoughts give us something to focus on. But, as far as actual creation, feeling is where it is at.

Many people struggle with LOA because they are ‘thinking happy thoughts’ but they actually don’t feel good. We can think any thought we tell ourselves to, but if the feeling that lies behind the desire—the happiness, fulfillment, ease, peace,etc…-is lacking, we can’t let the manifestation in. If we can’t find a way to feel now like we would feel if we already had what we wanted, we can’t become a match to it.

Law of Attraction- Challenge 3 - You Have to Focus Positively and Ignore All the Negativity

If we are feeling badly about a particular area of our life, we have to shift that to more positive beliefs and emotions to let the better experiences in. Many people take this to mean that we must suppress our negativity and ignore it at all costs. But, there is a very big difference between actually feeling better about a particular situation, and ignoring all the ‘yuck’ and going into major denial about how we are feeling.

The thing is, when we have beliefs and feelings that we have been carrying around for years and years, they typically won’t go away overnight. In theory, this is totally possible. But, in reality, we usually have to do a bit of work. So, if you are finding a hard time shaking a particular negative belief, or are feeling really badly about something, don’t ignore it. If you do, this energy will remain, and will slow down positive manifestations.

It is easy to become very scared of our negative thoughts and feelings when we starting consciously working with law of attraction because of all the emphasis placed on feeling good. But, to get to that good feeling place, we may have to wade through some muddy waters.

For example, if you are trying to develop a belief that you are good enough and deserve good things, but keep having thoughts about how your mother always told you that you weren’t good enough, the teasing you experienced as a child, the string of boyfriends who eventually left you for someone else and other experiences that contributed to the belief that you weren’t good enough, you want to sit with all of this for awhile, and examine what is happening. Stepping into these feelings is the first step to transforming them.

If you can remember the point of attraction is how we feel, you will realize that addressing your negative thoughts and feelings so we can truly raise our energy and feel better, is a good thing. You have to honor where you are now, and what you are feeling. If you just keep pushing it down, and pretending it isn’t there, your outer experience will continue to reflect these more negative beliefs and feelings because there has been no shift, and they are still very dominant.

In Closing…Truly working with Law of Attraction

Consciously working with law of attraction, and changing your energy, can make more of an impact in your life than any other ‘tool’ available to you. We have total control over our experience, and can create whatever it is we want. We are not at the mercy of people and other external forces. There is no such thing as competition, or not enough to go around.

But, shifting our energy significantly, and really buying into this concept, can take a bit of patience and educating ourselves on the nuances. I hope what was written here helps you in that journey of understanding. Happy manifesting!
